Living Liquid is a collaboration with the Exploratorium in San Francisco to create an interactive exhibit showing the growth of phytoplankton in the world’s oceans. Phytoplankton are microscopic autotrophs, responsible for half of the world’s oxygen production. Visualizations of the ECCO 2 ocean climate and circulation model and phytoplankton simulation data from the Darwin Project are combined with touch interaction to allow users to explore and investigate the data. Multiuser, multitouch, and object interaction are also being considered to enhance visitor engagement. The exhibit is currently in development and is scheduled to open at the Exploratorium’s new location in 2013.
